At Weather Today (weathertoday.bd), we consider privacy to be a fundamental human right. Our systems are engineered to provide accurate meteorological information while collecting the absolute minimum amount of personal data necessary.
Our Core Privacy Commitments
We do not sell, rent, monetize, or trade personal data or browsing histories to advertisers or third parties.
GPS coordinates are evaluated temporarily in device memory to find your nearest district and are never logged or stored.
We do not use surveillance pixels, social media beacons, or intrusive third-party advertising SDKs.
1. Information We Collect & Process
A. Geolocation Data (Optional)
When you interact with the search feature or request local weather through browser location prompts, the platform asks for permission to access your device coordinates (latitude and longitude).
- Your coordinates are used strictly in real-time to match the closest administrative weather station among Bangladesh's 64 districts.
- Coordinates are processed ephemerally on-device or via server memory during the request.
- We do not record, index, or maintain persistent historical GPS traces on our servers.
- You may deny or revoke location access at any time through your browser settings.
B. Server Access Logs & Operational Telemetry
To maintain uptime, prevent distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, and enforce rate limits, our edge servers automatically log basic HTTP network telemetry:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address
- Browser user-agent string and operating system architecture
- Requested URL path, timestamp, and HTTP response status code
Server logs are stored securely with restricted access and automatically purged after a 14-day rolling retention period.
C. Cookies & Local Client Storage
Weather Today does not use advertising or third-party behavioral cookies. We use browser localStorage solely for functional interface preferences:
- Saving your temperature scale preference (Celsius vs. Fahrenheit)
- Remembering your recently searched districts for rapid one-tap access
This data resides entirely within your local device browser and can be cleared instantly by clearing your browser cache.
2. Third-Party Service Providers & APIs
Weather Today integrates specialized meteorological data feeds to provide forecast calculations:
- Open-Meteo API: We query Open-Meteo for multi-model ensemble weather computations (ECMWF, GFS). API queries are dispatched from our backend servers rather than directly from your browser, ensuring your client IP address is never transmitted to external weather APIs.
- Cloud Hosting & Edge Delivery: Our infrastructure utilizes high-reliability edge hosting to deliver low-latency web assets with enterprise-grade SSL/TLS termination.
3. Data Security & Encryption Standards
We implement comprehensive technical and organizational safeguards to protect data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction:
- All web traffic is forced over encrypted Transport Layer Security (TLS 1.3/HTTPS).
- Zero persistent database storage for user location queries or browsing sessions.
- Continuous perimeter vulnerability assessments and automated threat detection.
4. Your Rights & Browser Controls
Depending on your jurisdiction, you have statutory rights concerning your personal information:
You can turn off location sharing at any time in your device browser settings without losing access to manual search.
Clear your browser local storage to erase all stored search preferences and temperature settings immediately.
5. Children's Privacy
Weather Today is a public scientific service and does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please notify our team for prompt resolution.
